What's In A (Disney Baby) Name?

Me & Sleeping Beauty - It's pink city!
This morning I read that TV & movie stars Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen named their newborn daughter Briar Rose. Awww, cute, right?! Congratulations, you two! Now, I don't know for 100% sure that they're Disney fans but the name would seemed to suggest so. (For those of you who might not know - Sleeping Beauty's name is Briar Rose.)

So it got me thinking; I wonder how many other people in the US have names inspired by Disney characters. I fired up my laptop, sauntered over to the Social Security website and had a go.

(Did you know you can go to the SS website, HERE, and look up the popularity of ANY name?! I've had friends use this when they name their children. Pretty cool stuff!)

Using both the Social Security website as well as HowManyOfMe.com, I went searching for Disney-inspired names. And here's what I found!

* There are approximately 11,172 people in the US named Belle. Also, about 6,200 people are named Gaston.

* In 2013, Ariel was the 146th most popular girls name in the US.

* Flynn (from Tangled) made its way into the Top 1000 US baby names in 2011.  Last year, it was ranked 664th.

* Jasmine has been one of the top 100 baby names since 1986!

* Donald peaked in popularity in the early 1930s, where it was ranked in the Top 10.

Do you know anyone with Disney inspired names? If so, please share here or on Facebook/Twitter!

Have a magical day!

  1. My baby boy is named Mickey. Know of anything special they would do for him when we visit WDW in Feb?

    1. How sweet! Love that. Is it his first visit? If so, I would ask your resort for a First Visit button and with his name on it, I bet he'd get some extra attention! You could clip it to the stroller, diaper bag, etc. :) If I think of anyone more, I'll let you know! Thanks for reading!
