They're heard us - Resort Specific Merchandise is back, baby!!

In recent years, Walt Disney World seemed to be doing away with resort specific merchandise such as tee shirts, key chains, hats, mugs and more. Those of us who LOVED the specific merch were upset - we wanted souvenirs from our vacations about our resorts, not just from the parks.

It seems as though the powers-that-be at Disney have heard our prayers, because - it's coming back, folks!

About a year ago, I noticed a small display at the Old Key West resort. This past December, there was a large display at the Contemporary resort and just about a month ago, I noticed Coronado specific merchandise. Yahoo!

When I was at the Contemporary, I noticed two gentlemen who I assumed were Disney executives. (They had on suits and we were wearing Disney cast member nametags.) I tried not to be obnoxious, but I said very pointedly to my friend Krista that I was SO glad to see more resort specific items.

I am staying at Wilderness Lodge in April and at Port Orleans French Quarter in July so I'm anxious to see the offerings there, as well.

Have a magical day!

Adult Beverages on the Disney Cruise Line

I take my role as a blogger very seriously. When I find out good information, tips and tricks, or other good to know items, I must share them with you. It's my duty, as you are my lovely and faithful readers!

In the spirit of this, I have taken it upon myself to showcase some of the most delicious adult beverages on the Disney Cruise Line. Because I'm a giver like that.

:) I love my job!

Here are some of the drinks from the last few cruises; some were drink of the day offerings, and others were special orders at the bar. We also took part in a mixology class and got to experience how to make mixed drinks, shots and specialty drinks such as Bellinis. YUM!

As you scroll through the pictures, just imagine you're on one of the four DCL ships, enjoying your beverage as the world rolls by. Calgon - take me away!

Have a magical day!

Sunday with Friends - Brittany Peregoff

Happy March 22nd to all of you! First, before we get started, I have to give a special birthday shout-out to my little sister, Alice! Happy Birthday ~ see you soon!

Today on Sunday with Friends, I want you to meet Brittany Peregoff. Brittany and her husband have an INCREDIBLE story of how they met! Read on to hear their incredible story.

* Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Brittany Peregoff and I live in Virginia Beach, VA. I own and operate three businesses with my husband David. My family and I have been visiting Walt Disney World ever since I can remember.

I have vacation at Disney countless times and plan to continue for as long as I live. Ten years ago, I met my husband on a Disney Cruise. I was only 15 years old at the time, and he was 16. We lived on different sides of the country, but would visit each other several times a year. Many WDW and DCL vacations were enjoyed over the years. We both attended college in Virginia, and after graduating we shared a magical experience together with our Disney wedding. Post college life led us to create three separate businesses that we run and work currently everyday. We continue to choose Disney as our vacation of choice. That is not to say we haven't tried other companies to vacation with, but we have yet to find anyone that can exceed the hospitality and joy of a Disney vacation. It is a tradition that we will carry on as we start and grow our own family.

* What is your favorite time of year to visit the Disney parks or sail the Disney Cruise Line?

My favorite time of year to visit the Disney parks is summer time, especially in June. I always went to Disney World as as child during the summer months, so for me if feels the most like "Disney" when I visit during summer and it is hot!

My favorite time of year to sail on Disney Cruise Line is anytime. But if I had to pick a specific time it would probably be during December and on the Christmas cruises (especially the longer ones). This is because I met my husband David on my first Disney Christmas Cruise on the Magic in 2004.

* If you had to pick your favorite attraction at Disney World or Disneyland, what would it be?

This is really hard because there are several attractions that I LOVE at both Disney World and Disneyland. But if I had to pick it would probably be Big Thunder Mountain in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World and Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom at Disneyland.

* Tell us a story about one of your favorite memories from your Disney vacations.

My favorite memory at Walt Disney World is my Disney wedding. We had the ceremony at the Wedding Pavilion at The Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and had our cocktail hour and reception over in the ballrooms at the Grand Floridian. Not only does Disney do an exceptional job of making the bride feel like a real life princess, but we had all our family and all of our friends down there with
us. Disney went above and beyond every single expectation I ever had about the wedding. It was absolutely stunning and unbelievable. I also enjoyed showing our family and friends around all the parks and take them drinking around the world at Epcot!

* If you had a friend visiting a Disney park or sailing on the Disney Cruise Line for the first time, what tip(s) would you give them?

Disney Park Tips:

 - First times, don't visit during the busiest times of the year. If you don't know the ins and outs of the parks, then battling the crowds can get miserable. Experience helps during these times.

 - Book/plan your dining choices and Fast Passes at least 3 months in advance.

 - In my experience, staying on Disney property is the best way to do Disney. So many perks to staying on property!

Disney Cruise Line Tips:

 - Book as many excursions through Disney as possible. They do a great job if something comes up like weather, cancellations, etc.

 - 3 days is too short. If at all possible, book yourself a week long cruise.

 - There are great activities for every age level on the ships. From the nursery, to the kids club, to the teen club, to the adult night life, there is something fun for everyone on board.

Thank you, Brittany, for sharing your story! Isn't that incredible that she met her hubby ON Disney Cruise Line?! How sweet is that!

Have a great week, everyone!

Movin' with The Mouse - Danielle's Inspirational Journey

Today in a Movin' with the Mouse feature, I wanted to have you all meet my friend, Danielle, and learn about her fitness journey. I've been reading her trip reports for a few years now, and I was lucky enough to be able to meet her in person in January.

Danielle recently completed the Princess 1/2 Marathon at Walt Disney World, and I wanted to have her share her story with all of us.

So without further ado, here's Danielle!

* Was the Princess 1/2 Marathon your first runDisney event? Do you plan on running in more runDisney events?

Yes, that whole weekend was my first runDisney event! I did the Frozen 5K and then did the Princess 1/2 Marathon. I didn't want to try the Glass Slipper challenge [this is where you run the 10K and the Princess 1/2 on the same weekend], because doing a 10K the day before the half would have felt like a lot for me. I figured that using the 5K to warm up would be good, and then taking a day off in between would help. I've done 5Ks and 10Ks before, but nothing like a runDisney event. Nothing I've done up to this point has really compared to this. It's insane, huge, fun, and thrilling! So many people and so many runners. I'm planning on running the Donald 1/2 Marathon in January 2016 and who knows after that! I want a Coast to Coast medal, though, that's for sure.

* Tell us about your personal fitness and wellness journey.

Two years ago, I found myself at the heaviest weight I've ever been. I'm a tall girl and pretty evenly distributed in weight, which is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because I disguise weight well and no one thinks you're "that" heavy, but a curse because it comes on gradually and before you know it, you've gained weight everywhere. I ended up having to be in a size that I'd never been in before in my life, and I started to make the excuses. "Oh, it's because they're not all made the same", "All brands are different", I thought of everything. Except for just admitting that I had gained weight and I needed to do something. A lot of it was attributed to the fact that I have a sit down job and a sit down lifestyle. I wasn't doing anything to burn off that food I was eating.

The very first thing I did was start to track my food and sting with Myfitnesspal. I reduced my calorie intake to 1,200 calories a day. In retrospect, now that I look back on that, that is way too small an amount of calories to consume daily. Knowing more about fitness and health now than I did before, I would ever recommend that small of a daily intake.

I knew, though, that diet is only a piece of the puzzle. You have to get off your butt. You have to start working out. You can adjust your diet all you want, but at some point, your body will get used to it. So I joined a gym, thankfully because my company had a corporate discount. I also started talking to my sister in law Jeni about how she started running. She said she simply enjoyed it because it's time for her to just get out there and be free.

In my wildest dreams, I never thought that I would like running, but I thought, "Why not?" The other forms of cardio just seemed boring to me. Elliptical and stair climber just didn't seem like something I wanted to do. But running  could get better at. And I'm a super competitive person. I always want to win and I want to be the best, so if you give me something that I can get better at, well that's a win.

So I downloaded a Couch to 5K app that said it would get you from not running to running a 5K in 8 weeks. I started at the gym. C25K programs work on the idea of intervals, which is exactly how Jeff Galloway, the official runDisney trainer, suggests to do it also. You start by running a minute at a time, and then walking for a minute and a half, and so forth. The first time you get up there to run your first minute, you're thinking "this is gonna be so easy, it's a minute." You couldn't be more wrong, especially if you're not a runner. This was one of the hardest things for me to start doing.  That minute felt like an hour, and I couldn't catch my breath.  I thought I was the worst runner in history, and after that first attempt at the C25K program, I was defeated. However, I told myself that I was going to keep going, because it has to get easier.

It does get easier, but it takes time. I got into the gym, and I was doing it regularly, three days a week. It just didn't feel like it was getting easier for me, but I kept on going. I did about three weeks of the program, and then got to week four. And I stunk at it. I couldn't do it. I had to try to repeat it. I still couldn't do it.

The weather was starting to get warmer, so Jeni gently said to me, "Let's run outside instead. We'll just run until you can't go anymore, and we'll just do what we can." To say she was a supportive partner would be an understatement. When we first started running outside, she stuck with me the whole way, even though I couldn't run for long stretches at a time, and was still walking a lot. She got out there and did it all with me. She never left me behind. Soon, I was running for five minutes straight. Then six minutes. Before I knew it, I had run a mile without stopping. The accomplishment that you feel from running a mile straight through with stopping, was unlike anything I had experienced before. I was so proud of myself. I had a fire in me! I wanted to do more. So Jeni registered me for my first 5K that we would do together. She told me not to worry, that she would stay with me the entire time. The only rule is, while walking is okay throughout, we always run across the finish line.

My first 5K came and it wasn't perfect. I didn't run the whole time, not even close. But I did it, and at that point I knew I could do it. After that, I just started running a little further,  little at a time. I am a go hard kind of person, and I learned some lessons along the way.  I struggled with calf strain, which I still fight against at times. I did my strain my calf the first time I tried to run a 10K virtual run and it set me back weeks. I tried to double my distance without experience, which you never want to do.

The result is that over time, I've lost 40 pounds. One of the things that happens, though, is you start to hit other speed bumps along the way. Your body starts to get used to your eating habits, it gets used to your fitness level, so the weight stops coming off. You hit a plateau. Those are frustrating and difficult to deal with at times. I'm currently at once and have been there for a while. I know what I have to do to fix it, I just need to put in the extra effort to do so.

* What advice or tips would you give someone who's looking to make some healthier choices in their life?

The first suggestion I have is to stop drinking soda. I cannot even begin to say what this did for me overall. And when you think about exactly what soda is and what it does to your body, you will understand why you don't want to drink it. I currently drink water, coffee, hot tea and chocolate milk (which by the way is an amazing running recovery drink. Google it!) I also drink alcohol in limited quantities and soda only for that rare mixer with alcohol. I stopped drinking soda of any kind, regular or diet. Regular soda has the sugar component that you want to avoid, but diet soda with artificial sweeteners can also hinder weight loss, as studies have shown.

After I did that, I counted calories. I made smart choices for myself but I didn't deprive myself. If I could fit it into my calories, I would eat it. So yes, I would have little cheats every once in a while. Because I was using Myfitnesspal and tracking all food and exercise, every time I would exercise, guess what? It would add calories back into my day because I burned them. Which meant I COULD EAT MORE! That was a motivator to exercise. The thought that if I did this work, I could eat more was power for me.

Don't eat diet food. Don't buy into it. It doesn't work. Eat real, whole food. Fruits, vegetables, grains, you name it, I ate it. But 100 calorie packs, low calorie, low fat? Avoid it like the plague. Because when you look at what's in it? Junk, preservatives, and extra things you don't need. And your body needs fat! I can't drive that point home enough. Buy as little pre-packaged food as possible and shop around the outside of the store. You can eat more of that kind of food, and we all know, more is good.

If you can't find someone to exercise with you or you don't have a run buddy like I did, that's okay. Try some things that are class oriented, or even try running alone if that's what interests you. But don't be scared to do it alone. Because the reality is, no one is paying attention to you like you think they are.

* How do you make exercise / wellness more enjoyable for yourself? What helps you get out there and "pound the pavement", as they say?

The running makes it easier because I'm competitive. I like to get better at something, so I can always run a faster mile, or run a faster 5K. But I have struggles just like everyone else. I work a normal job, 50+ hours a week sometimes, and its difficult for me to get out there. But I ask myself what's the alternative? Sitting down on my butt in front of the TV? Or spending 45 minutes of that working out, and then rewarding myself by sitting down on my butt? I would go with the latter.

If weight loss is your goal, weigh yourself weekly and you'll start to see progress. But also realize that you'll hit plateaus and walls. This is a lifetime journey, this isn't a temporary fix. It took me years to gain this weight, I'm not going to lose it overnight.

Build a healthy relationship with food. Don't beat yourself up with you "cheat". I schedule cheats! I eat one cheat meal a week. Anywhere we want to go for one meal a week. I look forward to it! But, if you do cheat, do not under any circumstances beat yourself up for it. Just accept it and move on.

To put things in perspective as a final though about this country and food, the "recommended caloric intake" is 2,500 calories a day. On the day of the Frozen 5K, I walked/ran 28,612 steps, which totaled 13.61 miles. That was running a 5K, and also walking around Disney World for the rest of the day. What to harbor a guess at my calorie burn? 3,980 calories. It took THAT MUCH EFFORT to burn that many calories. So now think about our sedentary lifestyle and eating habits. Think most of us even come close to burning 2,500 calories a day? Nope.

Awareness. That's what keeps me motivated. Awareness. Am I perfect? No way no how. Do I eat things that aren't great? Sure. I love chocolate. Absolutely love it. But if I choose to eat it at any point, I get up, dust myself off, and get out there and run it off.

THANK YOU so much, Danielle! Isn't she inspiring!? I'm so glad she was willing to share her story with all of us. We're rooting for you!

If you want to be a part of the Movin' with the Mouse series on the blog, please send me an email to katie@mouseworldtravel.com.

In the meantime - have a magical day!

Walking Around Coronado Springs

I am falling in love with Disney's Coronoado Springs Resort. I don't know what I didn't stay there sooner! I've been able to stay at Coronado Springs twice in the last 6 months, and I'll definitely be choosing that resort again!

In February, before our cruise, we walked around the resort quite a bit as we didn't have park passes for the few days before going to Port Canaveral. Here are some pictures from that walk-around, as well as a video I took! Enjoy!

Have a magical day!

Sunday with Friends - Wendy Ridgway

Happy March 15th, everyone! We had a week of gorgeous weather here in NE Iowa - here's hoping we're well on the way to spring and summer!

Today's Sunday with Friends is colleague of mine from Mouse World Travel, Wendy Ridgway. Let's meet a new friend, shall we?

* Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a nurse in my former life - although I still do help with hearing and vision screening in the local school district every fall. My primary job, though, is as an agent with Mouse World Travel where I can finally live my passion (Disney!) every day! My husband John and I have been married for almost 23 years. We have two children - Ashley is 21 and a junior at Clarion University of Pennsylvania and Kyle is 17 and a senior in high school. We live in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh - go Steelers, Penguins and Pirates!

* What is your favorite time of year to visit the Disney parks or sail the Disney Cruise Line?

My favorite time of year to visit Disney World is really anytime! I love the spring because Epcot is so beautiful when decorated for the Flower and Garden Festival. I love the summer because the parks are open later and it is HOT! Disney feels like a summer place.

I love the holidays because of the decorations, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, the Osborne Lights, and the Candlelight Processional. I love winter because I would rather be in Florida than in the cold and gray north!

As for cruising, we just started cruising a few years ago and I am totally addicted. I have only sailed in the winter and summer - but anytime is fine with me!

* Tell us a story about one of your favorite memories from your Disney vacations.

It is hard to pick one single memory, because so many bring a smile to my face. I guess one of the most exciting memories would be during the Year of a Million Dreams, we were picked to be Grand Marshals of the afternoon parade at Hollywood Studios. It was totally unexpected - I had stopped to ask for some dining information and the cast member asked if we would be free around 3PM. It was so nice fun - and I got the chance to try out the "princess wave"!*

The princess wave is, of course, the royal wave to your subjects as you pass by in your carriage. Above the pearls, below the crown.

* If you had a friend visiting a Disney park or sailing on the Disney Cruise Line for the first time, what tip(s) would you give them?

To anyone visiting the Disney parks of Disney Cruise Line for the first time, my advice is to slow down and savor each moment. You never know when the magic is going to happen and these will be some of the best memories of your life. Time will fly by and it will be over before you know it. As I always tell my clients, the best part of coming home is so that you can begin planning your next magical adventure!

Thank you, Wendy! Make sure to follow her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mouse-World-Travel-Wendy-Stophel-Ridgway/369780019703113.

Have a great week, everyone, and a magical day!

Our Balcony Stateroom - The Disney Magic Stateroom 7552

On my birthday cruise, we stayed in a Balcony cabin, stateroom #7552 on the Disney Magic. We picked this room because it was mid-ship, and looked to be a great location for getting to various places on the ship.

The room was very similar to other Balcony cabins we've had in the past; in fact, this was right next door to the stateroom my friend Alice and I shared in January 2014! To the left of the door in the first picture are two good sized closets, with plenty of hangers. To the right of the door is the split bath; one bathroom with a sink and the toilet, another bathroom with a sink and the shower. This is SO nice because it allows multiple people to shower, get ready for the day, etc.

The balcony was also standard, but nice; perfect for sitting with a coffee in the morning, watching a sunset or relaxing before dinner. Bliss!

We'd for sure pick this room again - it was a great one! Here are some pictures of our room, as well as as picture of the Gold Castaway Club gift we received. I can't wait to fill up that photo album with cruise memories.

Have a magical day!

Our Day in Grand Cayman - February 2015

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I got home from my big birthday cruise and I have yet to share any trip report with you! Bad blogger!

I am going to do things a bit differently this time around and not necessarily do posts in date order. I want to tell you all about my birthday cruise onboard the Disney Magic and can't wait to share it all with you!

Today I want to bring your our experience in Grand Cayman. This was our second (of four) port of call on our Western Caribbean 7-night cruise. After the great day we had in Cozumel the day before, I had high hopes of Grand Cayman.

Grand Cayman is a port where you tender; this means that instead of pulling up to the dock and being able to walk directly onto land, the boat is out from shore and you take smaller tender boats to the dock. To the right is a picture of what one of those boats looks like, taken from our tender. It was a quick jaunt from the tender boat to shore, and only took about 5 minutes.

We were initially supposed to tender at another part of the island, but it was pretty windy and the waves in that area were too choppy for us to dock. No matter - Disney took care of it as they always do. There was an announcement that morning that we were going to tender at a different location, and to come to the Walt Disney Theatre to wait for the next tender. At the Theatre, they handed out a tender ticket for each person and 2 bus tickets per person so we wouldn't have to pay for transportation between the boat and the downtown area. The normal tender pulls up right to the downtown, so they didn't want us to have to hassle with getting to the shops. It was super easy, handled very well and Disney did a great job. When we pulled up to the dock, Disney cast members were there guiding us, and also helping us get into busses for the trip to downtown.

We didn't have any excursions scheduled for today, and so our plan was to wander down the main shopping area and see if there was anything we wanted. As in many of the Caribbean islands, there were lots of jewelry stores and specialty shops, as well as stores that are familiar to us in the United States. We'd gone to a shopping seminar on the boat and received a map of the stores that Disney recommends shopping from, as they vet them for customer service, quality of merchandise, etc. I thought about purchasing a tanzanite ring but didn't see one that I loved, for the price I wanted to pay. The stores are supposed to bargain with you about price, but quite honestly I'm not super comfortable with that process. I would rather have the item be a certain price, and I pay it. I just never know if I'm actually getting a good deal, or if the person who walks in after me is going to be a better price. Know what I mean?

After a leisurely few hours in Grand Cayman, we decided to make our way back to the boat and grab lunch on the ship. On the drive to and from the downtown area, we were given a mini guided tour of the island by the bus drivers, telling us about the history, famous residents and more. It was pretty interesting and very neat to see some of the more residential parts of Grand Cayman. We passed one house in particular - I wish I would have taken a picture for all of you! It was HUGE and tropical-looking and gorgeous. A sprawling estate. Our bus driver said over Christmas, the owners open up the grounds and they have Santa, and give out treats for the kids on the island.

As you can see in these unedited pictures, the water is gorgeous. Crystal clear and just beautiful. The weather was perfect, too; breezy but warm and a sunshine-filled sky.

We had a great day, and I'm excited to go back to Grand Cayman again and perhaps try their world-famous snorkeling. We didn't book it this time but are glad our hearts weren't set on it, as some of the excursions were cancelled due to the wind. In general I do not love the shopping areas at ports (pushy salespeople and not a lot of variation on product from port to port) but we did have a nice time walking around.

Have a magical day!

New section - Movin' With the Mouse!

This afternoon on Facebook, I asked if people would be interested in a section of the blog where I talk about healthier eating, exercise and general wellness choices both as it relates to your daily lives and for when you visit a Disney destination.

There were enough supportive Likes to the post that I decided to launch this new section - Movin' with The Mouse!

These are the posts where we'll talk about healthier eating, exercise, and general wellness. I personally am on a path to moving my body more and being healthier, and thought some of you might be as well, so I thought it'd be fun to be in it together.

I'll also do posts and videos about healthier eating choices at Walt Disney World, Disneyland and on the Disney Cruise Line, so you can be armed with good information as you head out on vacation. I'll also be bringing you most guests posts from other bloggers and writers, talking about special dietary needs such as gluten free, dairy free, vegan, vegetarian, etc.

In addition to talking about healthier eating choices, I'll also be sharing information about other health and wellness choices that you can implement into your daily lives.

I'm most excited about sharing with you a feature I'm calling 1,400 Miles. This is the approximate distance between my home in Iowa, and Walt Disney World in Florida. I want to track all my movement during the day (both exercising and just walking around) and log my mileage, and see how long it takes me to log the 1,400 mile distance between home and WDW.  I'm working on getting a cute little graphic going that shows where I am in the journey (if you're a graphic-arts talented person, please get in touch! I'd love to hire you to help me with creating this). I am *hoping* to get an Apple Watch Sport in April, and use that to start tracking my mileage each day.

As always, this blog is full audience participation - so please don't hesitate to get in touch with ideas, or if you'd like to be a guest writer and share about healthier eating and lifestyle choices.

Have a magical day!

Sunday with Friends - Missy Khamvongsa

It's another Sunday! I hope it's going to be a beautiful day in your neck of the woods. In central Iowa we're seeing temps in the mid 40s and it's GLORIOUS. We might see the 60s by the end of the coming week - here's hoping!

Today on Sunday with Friends, I'm happy to introduce you to Missy Khamvongsa! I started following the social media pages and website that Missy and her husband Franklin created, called www.MagicofMainStreet.com. Be SURE and check it out, it's a very fun site!

So, now on with the show!

* Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm a Disney lover, through and through! My husband (Franklin) and I are Disney Vacation Club members and we're annual pass holders at both Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando.

To pay the Disney bills I work as an editor in the sports department of The Washington Post. In my spare time, I run MagicofMainStreet.com. I want Magic of Main Street to be the ultimate Disney hang-out where people can come for their Disney news, planning help and fun trip reports. My words are only half the story on the blog. Franklin is an amazing photographer and his photos bring everything I write to life. He loves seeing Disney through his camera lens and he takes the most unbelievable photos of all our favorite Disney things; the parks, the resorts, fireworks, parades, rides, characters and so much more!

* What is your favorite time of year to visit the Disney parks or sail Disney Cruise Line?

Fall. Hands down. The Food and Wine Festival is my favorite Disney event of the year My perfect Disney day is a lazy pool morning at Boardwalk, followed by lunch grazing at the Food and Wine booths, an Eat to the Beat concert and capping the night with dinner in the World Showcase and Illuminations! There are always so many yummy treats to try and so many exciting events to check out.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is also so much fun. Dressing up for the party has been an amazing experience. We were Mickey and Minnie in 2012 and Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in 2013. Cast members kept calling Franklin "boss" when he was dressed up as Mickey, it was absolutely hysterical.

* If you had to pick your favorite attraction at Disney World or Disneyland, what would it be?

It's so touch to choose! My top three attractions at WDW are:

 1. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
 2. Haunted Mansion
 3. PeopleMover

I've never been a huge thrill-ride person (though I'm getting better!) and I'm a sucker for Disney classics.

* Tell us a story about one of your favorite memories from your Disney vacations.

I was eating breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table with Franklin. When the waiter brought out our dessert, mine was a glass slipper on a bed of rose petals and the slipper contained an engagement ring. I was so incredibly surprised and overwhelmed, I nearly didn't realize Franklin had gotten down on one knee! It was a magical morning that cemented the very special place Disney holds in our hearts.

* If you had a friend visiting a Disney park or sailing on the Disney Cruise Line for the first time, what tip(s) would you give them?

Take a deep breath! Disney World can feel overwhelming and it will make for a far more enjoyable vacation if you realize you can't see and do everything in one trip.

I often tell people planning their first trips to pick three things they want to see/do each day and let everything else be gravy. Disney is in the details and you'll miss all those details if you don't stop and smell the roses during the trip.

Hopefully I'l come back from my first Disney cruise in April with lots of new DCL advice to give!

Be SURE and visit Missy and Franklin's website, and also follow them on their social media accounts!

Welcome to the Disney Magic!

One of the most fun parts of the cruise is just getting onboard. All the planning and all the excitement come together and you're back in your happy place (or there for the first time!).

Getting on the boat is great for another reason, too. This is Disney - do you think they'd just let you walk on the boat without some pomp and circumstance? No, sir! No, ma'am! This is Disney Cruise Lines, and they do it right.

Here's what you can expect when you first get onboard your Disney Cruise Line ship; can't you just hear them calling YOUR name?

Have a magical day!

Sunday with Friends - Julie Ranken

Happy Sunday, everyone! It's March 1st - isn't this year going fast?!

It's also time for another edition of Sunday with Friends - so please give a warm welcome to Julie Ranken!

Hi, Julie! Tell us a bit about yourself.

I teach Latin in the Dallas-Fort Worth area where I have been at the same school for 17 years. My husband Bill and I have been married for almost 6 years, but we have no children. However, we do have three cats, all named after characters from "Up" - Carl, Russell and Dug.

What is your favorite time of year to visit with Disney parks or sail Disney Cruise Line?

If we are sailing, I love to sail in early to mid March. I am a teacher so I can't go when prices are cheaper and things are less busy, so this is usually when my Spring Break is. However, the temperatures in the Bahamas are very pleasant and you can still get some sun and enjoy all that the cruise has to offer. If we are going to Disney World, Christmas is busy, but fun!! So much fun!!!

If you had to pick your favorite attraction at Disney World or Disneyland, what would it be?

I could ride Peter Pan's Flight over and over again. When my family went to Disney World in 1987, we probably rode it five times a day so it holds a lot of good memories. We say "hello" to Nana at the beginning  of the ride and quote some of the lines as we go through the ride.

Tell us a story about one of your favorite memories from your Disney vacation(s).

I have so many favorite memories, so I'll share by husband's favorite. On our first trip to WDW together, we had seen lots of characters, but we had yet to see Daisy Duck. We arrived at the Magic Kingdom at rope drop and were walking towards the flag pole when I saw her - Daisy! I am not a runner, but I took off. Bill was putting something in our backpack, so , when he finally looked up, I was just a blur running towards Daisy. It was then that Bill realized that the woman he married had the heart of a five year old.

If you had a friend visiting a Disney park or sailing on Disney Cruise Line for the first time, what tip(s) would you give them?

My tip would be that you do some research before going. If you don't learn how FP+ works or how to correctly use your tickets or dining credits, you'll find that you waste a lot of time and a lot of money.
