Sunday with Friends - Wendy Ridgway

Happy March 15th, everyone! We had a week of gorgeous weather here in NE Iowa - here's hoping we're well on the way to spring and summer!

Today's Sunday with Friends is colleague of mine from Mouse World Travel, Wendy Ridgway. Let's meet a new friend, shall we?

* Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a nurse in my former life - although I still do help with hearing and vision screening in the local school district every fall. My primary job, though, is as an agent with Mouse World Travel where I can finally live my passion (Disney!) every day! My husband John and I have been married for almost 23 years. We have two children - Ashley is 21 and a junior at Clarion University of Pennsylvania and Kyle is 17 and a senior in high school. We live in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh - go Steelers, Penguins and Pirates!

* What is your favorite time of year to visit the Disney parks or sail the Disney Cruise Line?

My favorite time of year to visit Disney World is really anytime! I love the spring because Epcot is so beautiful when decorated for the Flower and Garden Festival. I love the summer because the parks are open later and it is HOT! Disney feels like a summer place.

I love the holidays because of the decorations, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, the Osborne Lights, and the Candlelight Processional. I love winter because I would rather be in Florida than in the cold and gray north!

As for cruising, we just started cruising a few years ago and I am totally addicted. I have only sailed in the winter and summer - but anytime is fine with me!

* Tell us a story about one of your favorite memories from your Disney vacations.

It is hard to pick one single memory, because so many bring a smile to my face. I guess one of the most exciting memories would be during the Year of a Million Dreams, we were picked to be Grand Marshals of the afternoon parade at Hollywood Studios. It was totally unexpected - I had stopped to ask for some dining information and the cast member asked if we would be free around 3PM. It was so nice fun - and I got the chance to try out the "princess wave"!*

The princess wave is, of course, the royal wave to your subjects as you pass by in your carriage. Above the pearls, below the crown.

* If you had a friend visiting a Disney park or sailing on the Disney Cruise Line for the first time, what tip(s) would you give them?

To anyone visiting the Disney parks of Disney Cruise Line for the first time, my advice is to slow down and savor each moment. You never know when the magic is going to happen and these will be some of the best memories of your life. Time will fly by and it will be over before you know it. As I always tell my clients, the best part of coming home is so that you can begin planning your next magical adventure!
